Greater defects on treasured images can be especially annoying, because they often hide important details or even destroy the overall image. SilverFast calls this HDR RAW or HDRi RAW.An example would be a dark. I am wondering if my Epson scanner is going bad or not. You can crop later.3 - Turn iSRD and SRDx on, but turn off the 1:1 (Exact Preview). These flaws do not often get recognized until scanning, because scanning means also increasing image size in most cases. A copy of SilverFast HDR or HDR Studio is required for processing HDRi files. SRDx is the most efficient solution for the elimination of all these flaws. The interface is hard to learn, with out-of-date user manuals and automatic settings that yield sub-optimal results. However, the software itself assumes that scans are principally used for print, rather than the web. I have a PERFECTION V750 PRO running the latest version of EpsonScan and SilverFast 8.8 on a MAC PRO with OS X 10.11. The strength of SilverFast is the quality of the images it creates. I observed what I consider strange behavior while trying to scan a sheet of film larger than 5x7. This removes dust and scratches from photos. The biggest benefit of using the filter as a Photoshop plugin instead of using it in the scanning software, is the ability to mask areas that contain false detections or areas with more detail that were falsely identified as defects. Namely, EpsonScan grays out the Digital ICE option for Dust Removal when scanning film larger than 5x7 (I am scanning LF 6x7-inches, not cm, EKTAR 100 film). To compensate for this, SilverFast is offering the SRDx tool which is now available as a Photoshop plugin. I use this for cleaning prints with lots of shadows or highlights, as you can see in the image at the right. NOTE: Use SRDx for prints and iSRD for slides. But Silverfast can make RAW (DNG) outputfiles, so you can choose between DNG and TIFF. SilverFast 8.8 also does not offer their version of Infrared Dust Removal, iSRD, when scanning in the Wide Transparency mode (iSRD does show up when scanning in regular Transparency mode). The latter permits the use of both the splendid dust and scratch removal ISRD and SRDx functionalities. With the RAW files this is unfortunately not possible. Let us take a look at the comparison between the TIFF and DNG file. The SRDx Smart Removal of Defects plug-in thus is the ideal expansion for users who process their images in Photoshop. I have not seen anything in their respective manuals or online specifically stating that EpsonScan and SilverFast will not use Digital ICE or iSRD when scanning film larger than 5x7, so that is why I ask this question.
